In
the village of Montespluga (1908 meters above sea-level) the contact between
human beings and the mountain range removes the sense of time. The area offers
unparalleled opportunities to practise cross-country skiing and even mountaineering
skiing and telemark excursions organised by highly qualified alpine guides.
By the shore of the lake, a paradise for fishing, the region also offers long
strolls, horse riding, and the opportunity of mountain-bike in total calm. The
VITTORIA HOTEL, a seventeenth century "Ca' de la montagna" (mountain
house), nestled in the magnificent scenary of Montespluga, has continued its
tradition of hospitality and unaffected simplicuty since 1847. The comfortable
and quiet surroundings enable guests to appreciate even more the excellent local
Valtellina cuisine. The hotel is open all year round.
The hotel can accomodate up to 25 guests in its eight rooms with bathroom. Every
room is architecturally unique and the hotel has had a number of famous travelers
as guests throughout history who have each left their personal imprint on the
its atmosphere. Thus, the sensitive present-day visitor is likely to pick up
traces of the past in the whisper of the travelling merchant's precious fabrics,
the breathlessness of the fugitive who found here a momentary respite on his
escape route, the simple gestures of the wandering cart drivers, or the penetrating
gaze of the poet in search of inspiration. The invisible memory of all of these
journeys is retained by the hotel's famous ghost Giacomino (Jimmy), who good-naturedly
shows himself, but only when he pleases, and can be heard dragging his slippers
along the hallways as the guests sigh in their sleep. And if yet today the ding-dong
of bells is heard ringing along these paths, you needn't be afraid, its just
those same chimes used for centuries to recall wanderers lost in the raging
snow.
Animals are permitted.
The hotel also offers restaurant and full bar service where local specialities
can be sampled.
We accept proposals for artistic temporary expositions, particularly pictures.
All credit cards accepted.
